Here are some of the most notable stock movers Thursday.

Stock gainers

WestRock Co.’s WRK, +4.23% stock gained more than 5% amid merger talks with Smurfit Kappa. In a statement released Thursday Smurfit Kappa confirmed that the companies’ boards discussing a potential combination to create Smurfit WestRock. The merger would create “a global leader in sustainable packaging,” according to Smurfit Kappa.

Centene Corp. CNC, +4.93% stock rose more than 5%, continuing its recent rally. The stock is on pace to extend its winning streak to three days, its longest since a five-day streak that ended July 24.

UiPath Inc. shares PATH, +11.47% rose more than 10% after the AI startup’s earnings beat and stock buyback outweighed its conservative outlook.

Stock decliners

Shares of C3.ai Inc. AI, -12.24% slumped more than 13% after the AI stalwart reported quarterly results that generally met analyst forecasts.

ChargePoint Holdings Inc.’s CHPT, -10.91% stock plunged more than 12% after the the company reported a deepening loss of $125.3 million during its fiscal second quarter.

Apple Inc. AAPL, -2.92% shares were down more than 3% amid renewed concerns about the company’s China business. After the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that China had banned government officials from using iPhones for work purposes, Bloomberg News reported Thursday that Chinese officials could extend that ban to government-backed agencies and state companies.

After an initial pop, shares of GameStop Corp. GME, +0.75% fell more than 1% after the videogame retailer and original meme stock reported second-quarter results that beat expectations.
